And of course, David also showed us about Christmas in his country:

Another year Christmas is on its way and as usual we are holding our traditional CHRISTMAS CARDS COMPETITION .
Here are some guidelines to consider:
  1.  Students can participate with different designs (bilingual too)
  2.  They will hand their cards to their English teachers. Deadline is December 20th
  3. We will value: creativity, presentation, use of different languages, originality etc.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Perhaps Britain's greatest contribution to the world is not art or technology or sport, but the English language itself. Great Britain is home to the first language of business, science and travel.

The story of English begins more than a thousand years ago, but its global importance means it is still making history now.

HEALTHY BREAKFAST

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY YOUR PARENTS AND TEACHERS TELL YOU TO  HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT IN THE MORNING ?

When you wake up, it’s probably been at least 10 hours since you had dinner. Imagine waiting that long to eat during the day! Your brain and your muscles need energy, and going to school without breakfast is like trying to fly a kite without any wind.
So breakfast is important because it provides you with fuel to start your day.It doesn’t matter what you eat, because food groups (the ones that you can see in this project) work together. The most important thing is that you get the nutrients.

For example, this "cola cao" you just drink in a hurry is made of simple carbohydrates, which does not give you the necessary strength you need, in order to do all your things in Portada Alta every morning until your lunch time at three!

From tomorrow on , you should take your time and  add some more food like a ham or cheese sandwich, to give you the right amount of energy, plus some juice, piece of fruit or other diary product like a milkshake or a yoghurt (whether alone or mixed with carbohydrates such as cereal or honey),in this way you are also providing your body and brain with the right nutrients such as protein, fat, mineral and vitamins that are needed inside yourself because of your growth.

HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED A GEEKY TV SHOW?

In order to go on enjoying and learning English in a different way during summer, I recommend you to watch   THE BIG BANG THEORY one of my favourite geeky tv series

The show is centered on five characters: roommates Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, two physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech); Penny, a blonde waitress and aspiring actress who lives across the hall; and Leonard and Sheldon's equally geeky and socially awkward friends and co-workers aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali. The geekiness and intellect of the four guys is contrasted for comic effect with Penny's social skills and common sense. Three other supporting characters have also been promoted to starring roles: Leslie Winkle, a physicist colleague at Caltech and, at different times, a lover of both Leonard and Howard who left the show after season 3; Bernadette Rostenkowski, Howard's fiancée and now wife, who is a microbiologist and former part-time waitress alongside Penny; and Amy Farrah Fowler, a neuroscientist who joins the group after being matched to Sheldon on a dating website.

QUEEN ELIZABETH´S DIAMOND JUBILEE

These days, the people of the United Kingdom are celebrating that their Queen has been in the throne for 60 years, and this celebration is called the Diamond Jubilee. They previously celebrated the Silver Jubilee (25th anniversary) and Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary) back in 1977 and 2002 respectively.

The celebrations started in February 2012, but the most important events will take place between the 2nd and 5th of June. One of the most colourful will be the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant
a spectacular ceremony in which more than a thousand boats will accompany the Queen’s barge: it will be one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river Thames.

It was sixty years ago when Elizabeth Windsor became Queen of England. When she was born, nobody could imagine that one day she would be crowned, because it wasn’t her father but her uncle Edward who was the king. However, an unprecedented event turned things over. Edward VIII was in love with a twice divorced American lady called Wallis Simpson, who wouldn’t be accepted as queen by the government. He had to choose between his throne or the woman he loved and he decided to abdicate. So, it was Elizabeth’s father who became king under the name of George VI.

The official picture of the Queen on her accession to the throne in February 1952.

The following video summarises the life of Queen Elizabeth with its ups and downs. You can answer the questions after watching it.

FROM ME TO YOU

If there's anything that you want, If there's anything I can do, Just call on me and I'll send it along.

Letra From Me To You de Beatles
Da da da, da da dum dum da
da da da, da da dum dum da
if there's anything that you want
if there's anything i can do
just call on me and i'll send it along
with love, from me to you
I've got everything that you want
like a heart that's oh so true
just call on me and i'll send it along
with love, from me to you
I've got arms that long to hold you
and keep you by my side
i've got lips that long to kiss you
and keep you satisfied (ooo)
If there's anything that you want
if there's anything i can do
just call on me and i'll send it along
with love, from me to you
[harmonica] from me
[harmonica] to you
just call on me and i'll send it along
with love, from me to you
I've got arms that long to hold you
and keep you by my side
i've got lips that long to kiss you
and keep you satisfied (ooo)
If there's anything that you want
if there's anything i can do
just call on me and i'll send it along
with love, from me to you
to you

ENGLAND ´S PATRON SAINT

Several stories have been attached to Saint George, the best known of which is the Golden Legend. In it, a dragon lived in a lake near Libya. Whole armies had gone up against this fierce creature, and had gone down in painful defeat. The monster ate two sheep each day; when mutton was scarce, lots were drawn in local villages, and maidens were substituted for sheep. Into this country came Saint George. Hearing the story on a day when a princess was to be eaten, he crossed himself, rode and killed the dragon with a single blow with his lance.
Here in Spain the old legend has inspired to create Sant Jordi's Day as a Catalan version of Valentine's day. On this day men in Cataluña give their sweethearts a red rose, and in recent years a new tradition is that the ladies give the men a book.

CREATING FAMOUS HISTORICAL FIGURES

These weeks my students are going to introduce themselves to the class using VOKI

After that , each student will choose a famous historical figure to research on Wikipedia . They then create a Voki and turn it into that person in history but never state the name of the historical figure they are portraying. The class then listens to the Vokis together and guesses which historical figure is being portrayed.

(You can also see here our last year project with vokis  )

QUOTES FOR A CULTURE OF PEACE

                     May Peace Prevail On Earth

In a 2001 Internet chat with fans Michael Jackson said "Heal the World" is the song he was most proud to have created. He also created the Heal the World Foundation, a charitable organization which was designed to improve the lives of children. The organization was also meant to teach  children about how to help others.
